What Are You Thinking About?

Philippians 4:8
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
 
The world we live in today is very busy and full of distractions. Distraction is probably one of the tactics the devil uses the most. Distraction feels like we’re busy doing something when we’re actually doing nothing.
 
One form of distraction starts in the mind and it is our thought life. We may start to think about something and before we know it, it starts to consume all of our thoughts and flood our mind with worry, fear or anxiety.
 
Remember that whatever we focus on is what gets bigger or magnifies in our lives. This is why it is so important to guard our thoughts. Instead of thinking wrong thoughts, let’s choose to fill our mind with positive ones.
 
What are wrong thoughts or how do you know your thoughts are not good? Check the fruit and see what it leads to? If it’s chaos, confusion, lack of peace, worry etc.. then it is a wrong thought because God is not the author of confusion but of peace – 1 Corinthians 14:33.
 
In this season I am learning to shift my perspective from focusing on WHAT (life’s issues and worries) to WHO (JESUS). I heard it be put like this: WHAT = FEAR ~ WHO = PEACE.
 
I was having a conversation with a friend recently about a certain issue and they asked me, ‘‘What are you going to do’’? My response was that I can only do so much. I have put it in God’s hands and I am trusting Him.
 
Now that doesn’t mean that the thing we may be thinking about is not real. But it does mean that although it may be true, and although it may look a certain way, we must trust that God will take care of it. He will provide a solution when the time comes.
 
The bible says in Colossians 3:2 to set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth and in Isaiah 26:3
You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.
 
I want to encourage someone today, don’t waste your time trying to figure everything out. Instead give it to God and receive His peace. He has already given it to you so take hold of it – John 14:27.
 
My prayer is that we learn to replace all negative, worrisome thoughts with good and Godly thoughts on purpose. Let’s think of God’s Word, His will for us, who He says we are and let’s firmly take hold of it.
 
It’s not easy but it’s possible.
 
How? By continuously reading His word and thinking about His promises.
 
Another practical way I found helps me keep my mind stayed and remember His promises is by posting His word everywhere I go. I have printed scriptures all over my home, my office, my phone, etc. that way when I need a word, I can look up and see it right away.

Let’s saturate our mind with the things of God instead of the things of this world because close fellowship with God leads to peace in spite of all circumstances.
